Smriti Mehra triumphs at Jaypee Greens
Greater Noida, 31st July 2014: Smriti Mehra fired 5 under 67 on the last day at Jaypee Greens to win her fourth title this season. Such was her dominance that she started four strokes behind overnight leader Vaishavi Sinha and by the time she finished, she was 4 strokes clear of the second placed Sharmila Nicollet. In the process she also carded the lowest round in leg 13 of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour.
Smriti got off to a great start, carding a birdie on the first hole. She carded two more birdies on the 3rd and 6th holes with a lone bogey on the 7th hole in the front nine. She played a bogey-free back nine and carded three consecutive birdies on the 11th, 12th and 13th holes to seal a convincing victory, her third in the last four events.
Hero Motocorp sponsored Sharmila Nicollet had a slow start and carded three bogies on the 3rd, 5th and 9th holes with just one birdie on the 6th hole in her front nine. She tried to make a comeback with two quick birdies on the 11th and 13th holes but a bogey on the 16th hole forced her to be content with second position. She finished with a total score of 216.
Overnight leader Vaishavi Sinha had a quiet day in office. She played a birdie-less round with two bogies on the 3rd and 13th holes with a double bogey on the 5th hole to take her day’s score to 4 over 76. She finished third with a total score of 221.Kapurthala golfer Gursimar Badwal finished fourth behind Vaishavi with a total score of 222. She started aggressively, carding three birdies on the 1st, 3rd and 6th holes along with an equal number of bogies on the 4th, 5th and 8th holes in her front nine. Her back nine consisted of two bogies on the 14th and 16th holes with a lone birdie on the 13th hole.
Delhi golfer Ankita Tiwana finished fifth ahead of Pune’s Shweta Galande. Ankita carded three birdies on the 1st, 9th and 14th holes. She carded an equal number of bogies on the 3rd, 10th and 13th holes with a double bogey on the 2nd hole. With a score of 2 over 74 in the last round, she finished with a total score of 227. Shweta on the other hand played a birdie-less round with three bogies on the 5th, 10th and 11th holes and a double bogey on the 7th hole.
Jaipur’s Pallavi Jain and Chandigarh’s Preetinder Kaur finished tied seventh with an identical score of 234 at the INR 5,00,000 event which culminated today at Jaypee Greens.
The Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2014 has showcased some keen golf in several events spanning across key locations in India, and is likely to culminate next month.
