KUALA LUMPUR, 20 Nov 2014 – AirAsia, the region’s largest low-cost carrier today announced its own air pass called the AirAsia Asean Pass, which will enable travelers to utilize pre-purchased credits to book flights at a fixed-rate across selected routes throughout ASEAN. A credit-based system acts like a single currency which diminishes the hassle due to differing foreign exchange rates as routes are valued according to credits.

Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, AirAsia’s Group CEO announced this brand new and innovative Asean Pass, which is expected to be launched commercially in January 2015 at the ongoing ASEAN Business Advisory Council Malaysia Conference on SMEs.

Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, Group CEO of AirAsia said, “We are proud of being a true Asean airline, serving all 10 ASEAN member countries. With the dawning of the ASEAN Economic Community and progress on ASEAN Open Skies, we are pleased to promote Asean integration by helping to bridge Asean communities. The ASEAN Single Aviation Market (ASAM) is something we take seriously and we are confident the introduction of this Asean Pass will boost air travel within the Asean communities, as well as attract foreign tourists to this region.”

“The most convenient way to move around Asean is by air, given that we live in places separated by large bodies of water, as well as being home to the two largest archipelago nations in the world – Indonesia and the Philippines. The challenge was to make air travel affordable, and AirAsia has lived up to our promise so far; but it’s time to push the envelope further and the Asean Pass will be the catalyst for a new chapter of air travel with AirAsia,” added Fernandes.

AirAsia Asean Pass holders will be able to purchase flights to over 137 routes throughout Asean with these credits, which provides them with great value as they are guaranteed to able to fly at very low rates within Asean. The list of routes featured in the Asean Pass will be from 1 credit up to a maximum of 8 credits one way. The pass will also come with numerous benefits, including BIG points which can be used to redeem free AirAsia flights.
