#4: 65th Senior National Basketball :Kerala and Tamil back on top

Bhilwara, Rajasthan: After losing their opening encounter against the star studded Uttarakhand (ONGC) side yesterday, Tamil Nadu men bounced back with a statement 92-62 win over Indian Railways. The Tamil Nadu outfit saw multiple players in double digits in this balanced attack that netted them nearly 100 points. International guard Prakash Mishra found himself to be the lone warrior for the Railways, but his 19 points couldn’t prevent the 30 point drubbing at the hands of the defending men’s champions.

Finally playing to their potential, Kerala women surprised defending champions Chhattisgarh winning a tense game 68-65. The Kerala women’s starting five featured four international players Stephy Nixon (centre), Poojamol KS (forward), Jeena PS (forward) and Neenumol (small forward). Kerala’s excellent defense in the first half restricted Chhattisgarh to just 10 points in the second quarter, and combined with their steady scoring had them leading by nearly 20 points going into second half. 6ft 10 inch Chhattisgarh centre Poonam Chaturvedi was mostly ineffective thanks to the terrific man marking and boxing out by rival centre, Stephy Nixon.

But true to its style, the never-say-die Chhattisgarh outfit fought back in the second half, thanks mostly to the outside shooting of Sharanjeet that including a three pointer with less than a minute remaining that tied the game at 65-65. Luckily for Kerala, teen sensation Poojamol drove the baseline and converted the two pointer despite getting fouled to take Kerala back in the clear by two points. Poojamol would calmly convert from the foulline to carry her side to its second straight victory.

Hosts Rajasthan teams fell to their second straight defeats. While the women lost to Odisha in the lower Level match, the men suffered a moral sapping loss to a young and resurgent Karnataka outfit. Rajasthan men were neck and neck for most of the match until the final few minutes, where Karnataka ran away to a 14 point win. This year’s Karnataka team bears a markedly younger and more athletic look having opted for youth over experience. The strategy seems to be working fine for Karnataka as they raced away to this back to back win. Karnakata centre Arvind in particular has been the star performer with numerous in game dunks that underlines his position as one of the most athletic basketballers in the nation. In this match he had 29 points to go with his 14 rebounds.

DMRC Airport Line Not Serving Airline Passengers No Amenities

31 12 2014

December30, 2014 (C) Ravinder Singh ravinderinvent@gmail.com

DMRC Airport line which cost over $1.4b at 2010 exchange rate is Worst
in Passenger Amenities. Airline Passengers carry many suitcases but
there is no Trolley for them. Due to following deficiencies even
Airline or Airport Staff don’t use Airport Line. Not more than 10
Airline Passengers per train use Airport Line.

But worst of all Domestic Terminal 1 which is supposed to carry BULK
of Domestic airline passengers – 95% is not Connected by Delhi Metro
Airport Line.

As given in the arrival schedule of an airline from Dubai which is
just 2h30m flying distance arrival and departure could vary as much as
2 hours – 8:41 hrs and 10:35 hrs so Airport Line Could have reduced
congestion at airport due relatives arriving hours ahead of Exit of
their foreign or NRI guests and Zip through passengers to Dhaula Kuan
in 10 minutes.

Stations on the route are Copy of the conventional stations in layout
– Airline Passengers with luggage have to undergo Shifting of Luggage
at Ground, Mid Level and Platform level at all stations.

Instead of 5-8 Lifts of 20 People or 2 Tone Capacity, two for each
coach there is probably only one on 1 tone capacity.

At Dhaula Kuan which is on Interstate Bus Terminal and gate way to
West Delhi & South Delhi – no Cab Service and Porters are available
and In fact there is no Unloading Platform for Cabs to Load & Unload
Luggage. Shivaji Stadium and New Delhi stations of Airport line are in
congested areas difficult to reach and Aero City station is basically
one end of airport itself suitable for Five Star Hotels around it
without connection to other public transport.

No Arrival & Departure Info is provided in Delhi Metro Airport Line or

There is gauge difference also – Airport line is Standard Gauge 1.435m
whereas rest of DMRC lines have Broad Gauge lines 1.676m – due to this
Deficiency Trains of Airport Lines can’t operate on rest of DMRC
sections. Changeover is required at Dwarka Sector 21 to access
Noida-Vaishali line.

More Blunders – REMEDIES

DMRC now wants to extend this Lame Duck Line to Huda City Center in
Gurgaon. ‘The line is to be extended beyond Dwarka Sector 21 to IFFCO
Chowk in Gurgaon. The 12 km extension will have a 1.5-kilometre-long
(0.93 mi) underground section, while the rest will be elevated.’

1. Convert Airport Line to Broad Gauge and Directly Connect with Blue
Line 2. Connect Airport Line to Domestic Airport which is just 1 or
1.5 km. 3. Extension to Huda Center to have more Stations. 4. Add more
stations to Airport Lines and Changeover to other Metro Line
Crossings, Two Existing & Two Upcoming Lines. 5. Charge normal Fare &
allow use of Smart Card.

Shankar Das’ sensational win at McLeod Russel Tour Championship

30 12 2014

Local lad Shankar Das’ sensational win at McLeod Russel Tour Championship earns him Rolex Player of the Year title

Gaganjeet Bhullar, Abhinav Lohan are joint runners-up; Shubhankar shoots rare ‘albatross’

Kolkata, December 28, 2014: Kolkata’s Shankar Das won the Rs. 1.5 crore McLeod Russel Tour Championship after his final round of three-under-69 at his home course, the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC). Shankar as a result of his win also topped the Rolex Rankings and bagged the Rolex Player of the Year title for 2014. Das totaled 16-under-272 for the week to register the biggest win of his career.

Kapurthala’s Gaganjeet Bhullar and Abhinav Lohan of the DLF Golf & Country Club, Gurgaon, were joint runners-up at 13-under-275 as they fired matching scores of 68 in round four.

Shankar Das (68-70-65-69), who started the final round with a two-shot lead, came out a determined man on Sunday. Shankar’s burning desire to win in front of his home crowd for the first time was reflected in his solid start as he birdied the first hole from 20 feet. Das, who was also in search of the Rolex Rankings crown, carried on the good work with another birdie on the fourth.

The three-putt bogey on the 11th didn’t dampen Shankar’s spirits as he hit an outstanding tee shot on the par-3 13th and thereafter sank a 12-footer for birdie. The ever-smiling Shankar once again seemed unfazed after the dropped shot on the 14th as he came back stronger with birdies on the 15th and 16th thanks to some excellent wedge shots. The 31-year-old made pars on the last two holes to seal a comfortable three-shot win and take home his fifth tournament trophy. Das thus earned a handsome pay cheque of Rs. 23,77,500, the highest ever for a domestic tournament in India.

Shankar, who was ranked third in the money list at the start of the week, finished with total earnings of Rs. 54,32,067 for the 2014 season and therefore overhauled Bangalore’s Chikkarangappa S in the race for the Rolex Player of the Year. Chikkarangappa, who finished fourth at this week’s event, ended the year with total earnings of Rs. 47,15,336 to claim second place in the Rolex Rankings for the second year running.

“This is definitely the biggest win of my career. It’s helped me become number one on the PGTI for the first time. It’s also great to win on my home turf for the first time. The overwhelming support from the RCGC members, my family and friends through this week played a huge role in my performance. It’s been a tough time for my family this year. I missed about four tournaments midway through the season due to my mother’s poor health. However, I came back stronger on the tour with some good performances and top-5 finishes. It’s great to end the year with a win, my first in over 15 months. I will now aim to use my country spot to good effect on the Asian Tour next year,” said a beaming Shankar.

He added, “I didn’t bother too much about the leaderboard today and focused on playing a good round. I was lucky to get off to a good start with a birdie on the first. The birdie on the fourth really set up the round for me as my confidence was soaring by then. The best shot of the day was the tee shot on the 13th where I successfully negotiated a tough pin position.”

Gaganjeet Bhullar came into his own on the final day with a 68 that featured five birdies and a bogey. Bhullar did mount a challenge with a hat-trick of birdies on the back-nine but Shankar’s late charge on the 15th and 16th put paid to Gaganjeet’s title hopes.

Abhinav Lohan also mixed five birdies with a lone bogey on Sunday to end up in joint second along with Bhullar. Lohan, as a result, climbed from 16th to seventh position in the final Rolex Rankings.

Bangalore’s Chikkarangappa, who required a runner-up finish to seal the Rolex Rankings title, claimed fourth position at 12-under-276 after his final round of 69 and thus ended up in second position in the money list.

Delhi’s Shamim Khan finished a further stroke behind Chikka in fifth place. Shamim made five consecutive birdies from the 13th to the 17th during his fourth round effort of 71.

Gurgaon-based Shubhankar Sharma, the leader in the first two rounds, fired an incredible albatross on the par-5 fourth during his final round of 70. He holed his four-iron second shot from 224 yards to achieve the rare feat. This was only the fourth albatross on the PGTI. Sharma secured sixth place in the tournament as he totaled eight-under-280 for the week.

“It was unbelievable. I didn’t see the ball go in but I only realized I had made an albatross when I was walking up to the green and my playing partner Anura Rohana informed me that my ball was in the hole,” said a delighted Shubhankar.

Kolkata’s SSP Chowrasia shared seventh spot with Sri Lankan K Prabagaran at seven-undeer-281.

Arjun Atwal, another local favourite, ended ninth at six-under-282 in his maiden event on the PGTI. He shot a final round of 72.

The 2013 Rolex Rankings champion Rashid Khan of Delhi, who equaled the course record of 63 earlier in the week, was tied 10th at four-under-284 along with Sri Lankans Anura Rohana and Mithun Perera and Delhi’s Vinod Kumar.

Kolkata golfer Rahil Gangjee was joint 20th at one-under-287.

Jamshedpur’s Karan Taunk, who finished tied 61st this week, won the 2014 PGTI Emerging Player of the Year title for recording the highest earnings among the rookies this season. Taunk’s earnings for 2014 stood at Rs. 5,83,095. Sanjeev Kumar of Lucknow finished second in the Emerging Player list with season’s earnings of Rs. 4,70,281.

Sustainable Infrastructure for Natural Gas

30 12 2014

Posted: 29 Dec 2014

A study by IHS Energy shows that India was the fourth largest importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2013. (Japan, South Korea and China – in that order – were the largest.)

India’s infrastructure for transport of natural gas to meet the domestic demand has never been adequate. The present pipeline is not enough to keep pace with the supply surge through increased domestic production, LNG imports and gas imports.

LNG imports are expected to account for much of the gas supply; its increase will depend on the pace of expansion in regasification terminal capacities and pipeline infrastructure connecting gas to markets.

Source: Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board

The geographical distribution of existing pipelines continues to remain uneven as states closer to gas sources devour the benefits of higher utilisation and local development of the market. Of the 12,144 km of gas pipelines in India, around 60% is concentrated in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan.

Region % of gas pipeline network % of consumption States with favorable infrastructure States lacking pipeline infrastructure
Western 40 53 Gujarat, Maharashtra Goa
Northern 20 26 Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand
Central 13 3 Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh
Southern 16 14 Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh Kerala, Karnataka
Eastern NIL NIL NIL Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha
North Eastern 10 4 Assam, Tripura Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland

Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board

Though the government has promised to expand the pipeline network by 15,000 km to complete the grid, the situation is not encouraging. Only 17% of the targeted 15,918 km in the 12th Five Year plan (2012-17) is complete; another 4,000 km is a work in progress. Projects related to 6,200 km of pipelines are in various stages of bidding, while the fate of the final 3,700 km is unclear.

It’s likely, then, that supplies will improve by 2017 via LNG terminals and domestic sources but India won’t have the infrastructure to transport gas to its eastern and central regions.

A major hurdle is the tariff structure. The uneven development of pipeline infrastructure is the result of different tariffs to transport the same amount of gas across the same distance in different parts of the country. Manish Aggarwal, partner and head of energy and natural resources at KPMG India, told Livemint.com: “Many delays are due to issues with local clearances, project coordination and centre-state conflicts because of the project’s impact on farmers.”

Ideally, for a slowly evolving market like India, a uniform pipeline tariff – also known as ‘postalised tariff’ – for all customers, irrespective of their distance from the gas field, is prudent. This may have a further positive impact through greater investment in deep-water projects for domestic gas exploration and increased competition for LNG imports.

HRD ministry is lying on IIT Delhi director’s resignation

Sunday, December 28

The HRD ministry is misleading the country on the issue of the resignation of the director of IIT Delhi.

It is extremely shocking that the BJP central government’s unjustified political interference is trampling the autonomy of the top institutions for professional and technical education.

The Aam Aadmi Party challenges the human resources development (HRD) minister to answer the following two questions :

1)      Is it not a fact that she had recently summoned the IIT Delhi director ?
2)      Is it not a fact that impolite language was used against such a senior professor and is it also not fact that he was humiliated in that meeting ?

The BJP’s central government has wreaked havoc in the institutions of  excellence in the country during last seven months. Ranging from the removal of the Chief Vigilance Officer of AIIMS to the shocking resignation of the IIT Delhi director, the entire government appears hell bent on imposing its dangerous agenda on the nation.

The HRD ministry in particular, appears to have made it a habit to create a controversy on a weekly basis.

Beginning with its shoddy handling on the FYUP course in Delhi University to abrupt change in the third language in Kendriya Vidyalayas and the confusion on keeping Christmas day as a working day, the ministry has shown itself in a poor light on a regular basis.

The AAP is of the clear view that even in case there was any issue related to the functioning of IIT Delhi, the HRD ministry had no right to interfere in the functioning of this autonomous institution and the matter should have been referred to its board of governors.

The AAP will strongly oppose any attempts to undermine the autonomy of institutions of higher, professional and technical education for political purposes. (ENDS)

Russia’s NATO envoy says Arctic should be zone ‘free of military activity’

The Arctic should remain a zone with a minimum of military activity, RIA Novosti quoted Russia’s permanent representative to NATO as saying on Friday. There are no direct military risks today in the region, according to Aleksandr Grushko. Speaking in Brussels, he said that “Cold War” rhetoric should be put aside. “We are carefully watching how NATO is turning its focus to the Arctic region,” he said, adding that “the less influence from military and political organizations in that region, the better it will be for solving tasks set before the Arctic states.”

AirAsia flight from Indonesia to Singapore goes missing

28 12 2014

An AirAsia flight with 162 people aboard went missing en route from Indonesia to Singapore today after losing contact with air traffic controllers. There were unconfirmed reports that an aircraft has crashed in the waters off East Belitung, off the east coast of Sumatra. However, the details of the aircraft were not known.A transport official said, Flight QZ8501 lost contact with Jakarta air traffic control just after 07:24 am local time. Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said aircraft was in the Indonesian Flight Information Region when contact was lost, 42 minutes after takeoff. There were no Indian nationals on board. An Indonesian transport official confirmed that seven crew and 155 passengers were on board. The plane took off from Surabaya (Indonesia) at 5.20 am local time and was scheduled to land at Singapore’s Changi Airport at 8.30 am.

Indonesian Transport Ministry official Hadi Mustofa said, the plane had asked for an unusual route before it lost contact, local media reported. Air Asia said the pilot had requested deviation from its flight plan because of bad weather. Indonesian TV channels said there were 149 Indonesians, three Koreans, one Singaporean, one Briton and one Malaysian on board.

A statement on AirAsia’s Face book page said, at the present there is no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but all parties will be informed as more information becomes available. Search and rescue operations are in progress and Air Asia is cooperating fully and assisting the rescue service, the statement said. Malaysia has also offered assistance in the search operation.

AirAsia is popular in the region as a budget carrier. It has about 100 destinations, with subsidiaries in several Asian countries. The loss of contact with the AirAsia plane comes nearly10 months after the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 370, which dropped off radar over Southeast Asia on March 8. Searchers are yet to find any debris from Flight MH 370,which officials believe crashed in the southern Indian Ocean.

Raghubar Das takes oath as J’khand CM

Raghubar Das takes oath as J’khand CM; Stalemate continues on Govt formation in J&K

Dec 28,

Senior BJP leader Raghubar Das took oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand today. Governor Sayyed Ahmed administered him the oath of office and secrecy at the Morhabadi ground in Ranchi. The 59-year-old BJP leader, is the first non-tribal Chief Minister of the state. BJP MLAs CP Singh, Neelkanth Singh Munda and Louis Marandi and AJSU MLA Chandra Prakash Choudhri also took oath as Ministers.

AIR correspondent reports, BJP leader Raghubar Das is now the 10th Chief Minister of Jharkhand, and incidentally the first non-tribal Chief Minister in the state’s 14 years history. The new Cabinet is meeting today late afternoon to kick start the new phase. The swearing-in ceremony witnessed positive signs for the new government as ex- Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Arjun Munda and Babulal Marandi were also present at the Birsa Munda football Stadium of Ranchi. The task before the new government is enormous in terms of the priorities set by new Chief Minster himself, and people will keenly observe the functioning of this government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah were to attend the swearing in ceremony. But dense fog in Delhi forced them to cancel their visit to Jharkhand. In his tweets, Prime Minister congratulated the people of Jharkhand after getting an absolute majority in state elections held recently. Mr Modi said the people have voted for stability and wished that Jharkhand scales new heights of progress in the coming year. The Prime minister also extended his wishes to Raghubar Das on taking over as Jharkhand’s new Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, stalemate continues on Government formation in Jammu and Kashmir on the sixth day today with nothing concrete happening even as back door talks between leaders of various parties are going on. Meanwhile, looking for the “best deal”, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asserted that it is in no hurry to enter an alliance either with Bharatiya Janta Party at the cost of its ideology or with National Conference (NC) against the aspirations of people of the state. Reiterating that the party is looking at the implications of the possible alliance options, PDP spokesman Nayeem Akhtar said that in this scenario, Party wants to go ahead with due deliberations within the party and then decide the best deal for the state, a deal which would enable it to deliver both on political and developmental fronts. AIR Srinagar Correspondent reports that the continuing political stalemate over the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir may force imposition of Governor’s rule by January 20, 2015 when the Assembly will get automatically dissolved after the end of its six year term.

AIR correspondent reports, while exploring the prospects of forging an alliance with the BJP, PDP has reportedly sought assurances from BJP on certain issues mainly safeguarding Article 370 and revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). According to PDP Chief Spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar, it is not a question of forming a government only saying that the party will take its own time in carrying the best deal for Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, PDP also does not seem enthused to the option of a “grand alliance” with National Conference as according to PDP Chief Spokesman National Conference created a mess in the state during its six-year rule.

Shankar Das surges ahead with timely 65;

Shankar Das surges ahead with timely 65; Throws hat in the ring for Rolex Player of the Year title.

Rashid Khan two shots off the lead in second place

Kolkata, December 27, 2014: Shankar Das of Kolkata fired a timely seven-under-65 to surge ahead in round three of the Rs. 1.5 crore McLeod Russel Tour Championship at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) on Saturday. Shankar’;s three-day total now stands at 13-under-203 and he enjoys a two-shot lead over his nearest rival Rashid Khan of Delhi who shot a 71 in the third round. Delhi’;s Shamim Khan lies third at 10-under-206.

Shankar’;s third round effort, the day’s joint best score, meant he too emerged as a strong contender in the Rolex Rankings race besides Rashid Khan and Chikkarangappa. Das is currently placed third in the Rolex Rankings.

Shankar Das (68-70-65), who was overnight tied sixth, shot his best score of the week on day three as he came up with an eagle and eight birdies against three bogeys. Das, playing at his home course, began his day on a bright note with an eight-foot birdie conversion on the first. He then stumbled with bogeys on the second and third due to some errors in judgment. The 31-year-old turned the tide in his favour with an eagle on the par-5 fourth where he found the green in two shots and sank a 10-footer.

Shankar, a winner of four titles, then went on a birdie-spree on the sixth, eighth, 10th and 12th after landing it within six feet on all four occasions. His approach from 150 yards stopped within a whisker of the hole on the eighth. The bogey on the 14th was a minor blip as Shankar produced a fine chip shot on the 15th and two 25-footers on the 16th and 18th to earn three more birdies.

“The bogeys early on were disappointing. On the second, I didn’t go by my gut feeling as far as club-selection is concerned and ended up with a poor tee shot. I then hit a half-hearted shot on the third. The eagle on the fourth was the turning point for me. I knew I could pick up the pace from there on. I then almost sank putts at will and fired a near-perfect approach on the eighth,” said Shankar, who has posted seven top-5s on the PGTI in 2014.

He added, “I know I’m in contention for the Rolex Player of the Year but I won’t let that distract me from my primary target of winning this event. Even though I’ve done well in most events this year, I haven’t won anything. There’s a burning desire to notch my first victory in over a year. That thought will motivate me in the final round.

“I love the support I’ve been receiving on the course this week. Both my kids have walked the course with me on all three days. Today they were joined by my nephews and nieces as well. The RCGC members and my friends are also constantly cheering me on. The tremendous crowd support did wonders for my confidence today. I’d love to win my first event at my home course in front of my family and friends,” said Shankar.

Rashid Khan (71-63-71), who matched the course record in round two with a superb 63, had a relatively quieter day on Saturday as he carded a 71. Rashid, however, hung on to his overnight second position at 11-under-205. He continues to be in the reckoning in the Rolex Rankings race.

Khan had a forgettable start as he bogeyed the first and then found the water hazard to drop another shot on the third. He did pick up five birdies thereafter but the double-bogey on the 16th, where he found the hazard, put paid to his efforts.

Rashid, still a contender in the Rolex Rankings, said, “I had a poor start just like round one. I did recover after that but the double-bogey did the damage. A good start will be the key to my chances in the final round as two shots is not a big lead.”

Shamim Khan returned a 69 to be placed third at 10-under-206.

Abhinav Lohan’s 65, the day’s joint best score along with Shankar’s round, catapulted him from overnight tied 14th to tied fourth at nine-under-207. The Faridabad-based professional had a run of five consecutive birdies from the 12th to the 16th.

Bangalore’s Chikkarangappa S kept himself in the hunt for the Rolex Rankings title with a 72 that helped him join Lohan in tied fourth place.

Gaganjeet Bhullar of Kapurthala also took a share of fourth position after his round of 70.

Sri Lankan Mithun Perera (68) occupied seventh place at seven-under-209 while the Kolkata duo of SSP Chowrasia (68) and Arjun Atwal (72) were a further shot back in joint eighth along with overnight leader Shubhankar Sharma (77) of Gurgaon.

Rahil Gangjee (72), another local lad, is in 11th place at five-under-211.

Rolex Rankings: Shankar Das throws his hat in the ring

With Shankar Das taking the third round lead, it’s now clearly a three-way race for the Rolex Player of the Year title between Chikkarangappa, Shankar Das and Rashid Khan. The equation for the three golfers to guarantee themselves the Rolex Rankings crown is as follows: Second-ranked Chikkarangappa needs to finish at least runner-up at the McLeod Russel Tour Championship while both third-ranked Shankar Das and fourth-ranked Rashid Khan need to win the Rs. 1.5 crore event and at the same time hope Chikkarangappa doesn’t finish runner-up.

Chipko Andolan Within CONGRESS

27 12 2014

Saturday, 27 December, 2014
Chipko Andolan Within CONGRESS
December27, 2014 (C) Ravinder Singh ravinderinvent@gmail.comPolitically Congress was reduced to JUNK grade four years ago when it
couldn’t stand up to Arvind Kejriwal and Anna Hazare and defend over a
100 years old party that ruled and won elections with clean majority
most of the time.I don’t subscribe to the idea of First Post – replacements of Rahul
Gandhi in Congress are even worse many inducted through Rajya Sabha,
are not even state level leaders, don’t have any fighting quality and
caliber otherwise Congress wouldn’t have gone in to electoral battles
only to lose. All these Secondary Leaders had CAPITALIST Mindset
contrary to Traditional Ideology.

Every one in Congress knew Rahul is not in tune with ground reality –
even after camping in poorest and backward villages off and on –
substitutes have no idea of India or were simply ‘Timid and
Incompetent With No Political Base.’

Congress top level two Leaders can’t even think of SPLIT – unlike pre
1980 when there were Factions within who were opposed to Socialistic

Einstein in the party Jairam Ramesh was extreme dullard –

–    as Industry Minister he didn’t support MSMEs and didn’t Protect
Indian Intellectual Property, every one knows MSMEs contributes max

–    as Power Minister didn’t support Multi-Purpose Hydro Power, Energy
Efficiency, Load Management, Correct Meters & Billing and neglected
Rural Electrification.

–    as Environment Minister sabotaged Bt Trials – even trials were put
on hold when Bt Cotton was 100% success, every Cotton farmer was ready
to pay many times more for a packet of seeds than MRP. Instead of
Promoting ‘SUSTAINABLE MINING’ he stopped mining activity completely.

–    as Rural Development Minister was preoccupied with Land Bill only
after letting Corporate Acquire Thousands of acres of land for SEZs or
Bogus Programs like MNREGA than ensuring Full Time Jobs promoting Food
Processing & MSMEs in rural India as an example.

–    UPA completed two five year terms due to Manmohan Singh honestly
Transferring Central Taxes to states.

–    Bogus INVENTOR Sam Pitroda MISLED GOI for 25 years is shown the door
by BJP but Congress relied on him for Total Stupidity. When India was
to introduce Indigenous Optic Fiber Based Networks, 3G & 4G for mobile
applications 2G auctions harmed India and landed Government in

–    Son of former CM, Shashidhar Reddy was TOTAL DISASTER as CEO of NDMA
– from 2006 Surat Floods to Kosi, Floods in Punjab, Uttarkhand and
Kashmir Floods.

–    Defense Minister couldn’t handle ‘Date of Birth Issue’ such was his
INCOMPETENCE and ordered CBI investigations on false complaints,
failed to procure Defense Hardware.

Secondary Congress leaders operated as Office Babus only concerned
with pushing files Up & Down without taking any decisions
without Correcting Mistakes without Innovating & Addressing Problems.

Delhi LG must clarify his role in Rs 100 crore CNG fitness scam

  • Delhi LG must clarify his role in the CNG fitness scam
  • Unless Mr Najeeb Jung can deny the facts, he must immediately resign
  • EC must note the fact that current chief secretary has been named by the CBI in its probe

The Aam Aadmi Party demands that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Mr Najeeb Jung should immediately clarify whether he tried to hush up the Rs 100 crore CNG fitness scam, in which chief secretary Mr DS Spolia is allegedly involved.

The LG can no longer remain silent following news reports that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its preliminary investigation has found that Mr Jung had asked the Anti Corruption Branch of Delhi to close the probe involving top bureaucrats of the state government.

Mr Jung should come clean on his role and unless he can prove to the contrary, he should resign given the seriousness of the case and his role in protecting the blatant act of corruption.

Given the role of the LG in protecting the top officers and the involvement of the chief secretary himself in the scam, the Election Commission of India should immediately take note and decide whether free and fair elections would be possible in Delhi with such individuals at the helm of administration.

The continuing silence of the BJP’s central government and the LG on the indictment of top city bureaucrats by the CBI in what is commonly known as the 2002 CNG fitness scam gives rise to reasonable apprehensions that people of Delhi are being cheated by an unaccountable administration and taxpayers money is being looted without any fear.

The Aam Aadmi Party government had directed the Delhi’s Anti Corruption Wing (ACB) in January this year to provide all the relevant documents to the CBI, when the investigating agency had registered a preliminary enquiry and sought all such documents from the ACB.

It is shocking that indicted bureaucrats are continuing in top administrative positions and the BJP’s central government, which is indirectly controlling Delhi, appears to be turning a blind eye towards the multi-crore scams committed during the Sheila Dikshit government’s tenure.

The AAP challenges the union home ministry and Delhi administration break their silence on following questions :

1)      Is it not a fact that the CBI has sent a report to the union home ministry and Delhi’s department of vigilance asking for departmental action and further inquiries against three top bureaucrats, including the present chief secretary ?

2)      Is it not a fact that the former Sheila Dikshit government had tried to scuttle a probe into this scam by the Anti-Corruption Branch citing an order from the LG that no inquiry was required ?

3)      Is it not a fact that official documents were forged to conceal facts about this scam ?

4)      Is it not a fact that the contract for giving CNG fitness certificates to commercial vehicles was fraudulently awarded to a company despite it losing in the tendering process ?

5)      Is it not a fact that the LG gave a clean chit to officers against whom the Delhi ACB had registered an FIR in 2012 ?

6)      Did the LG send any report to the union home ministry on the status of the case against the officers named in the FIR ?

7)      Is it not a fact that the LG ignored the ACB opinion that a case under Prevention of Corruption was made out against these officers and chose to close the probe ?

8)      Was the union home ministry aware of the fact that the current chief secretary’s name figured in this scam when it cleared his reappointment to the post on August 27 ?

BJP central govt’s shameful politics with 1984 riots victims

The shocking insensitivity of the union home ministry in providing compensation to the families of 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims has exposed the worst kind of opportunism in which the BJP’s central government has indulged.

After a series of u-turns and lies on the issue, the manner in which the home minister selectively implemented the decision of providing enchanced compensation to merely 17 families at a political function is a matter of shame.

It is a matter of official records that atleast 2733 people had lost their lives in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi alone. (As per Ahuja committee report mentioned in the Justice Nanavati Commission report tabled in Parliament in 2005)

Can the home ministry tell on what basis it decided to provide cheques of enhanced compensation of Rs five lakh to only 17 families ?

If it was an official function, then how was the Delhi BJP president who has never been elected either an MLA or an MP was present on the stage ?

Was it an official or a political function ? In which capacity did the union home minister and the Delhi Lieutenant Governor allow the Delhi BJP chief to attend the function ?

The lack of preparation of the union home ministry on the entire issue is clear from the fact that Mr Rajnath Singh has written to chief ministers of all states for immediate disbursement of the enhanced compensation, whereas the fact is that 90% of the families of 1984 riots victims reside in Delhi itself.

When the administration of the national capital is under the supervision of his own ministry, who will ensure that the families of riots victims residing in Delhi will get the enhanced compensation ?

The home ministry has already displayed its non-seriousness in ensuring justice for the riots victims by setting up a committee to decide whether a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is required to probe the riots cases.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) warns the central government that if it does not disburse the enhanced compensation in a definite time period and if it does not set-up the SIT soon, the party will launch an agitation. (ENDS)

Rangoon goes to the polls

27 12 2014

Election officials have set up 1,086 polling stations across Rangoon’s 33 townships. Polls close at 4 pm, and ballots will be tallied at each individual polling station, with the results then forwarded to City Hall. YCDC Election Commission chairman Tin Aye told The Irrawaddy last week that final results could be expected within 48 hours of the vote cut-off.
While Saturday’s polls mark a measure of democratization for a municipal body that has been appointed since 1949, critics say the election falls short of allowing for a fully representative city government. Only one member of each registered household in Rangoon, a city of some 5 million people, has been allowed to vote, and the post-election Central Committee will remain majority-appointed by Rangoon Division’s unelected chief minister.

Rangoon residents went to the polls on Saturday to elect a portion of their municipal government for the first time in more than 60 years, though initial reports indicated the landmark vote was under attended by an ill-informed electorate.
A total of 293 candidates are vying for 115 seats at the central, district and township levels of the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), which oversees management of Burma’s biggest city.
Early indications were of an underwhelming voter turnout. Polls opened at 6:00 am and by midday, three polling stations in Insein Township—each of which had registered 500 households as eligible to vote—had seen 148, 36 and 41 voters cast ballots, respectively.
Win Cho, a former political prisoner and rights activist, is running for one of four seats on the YCDC Central Committee, the municipal government’s highest representative body. The nine-member Central Committee is also comprised of five appointed members, including its chairman, Rangoon Mayor Hla Myint.
The 57-year-old Win Cho, who is not eligible to vote due to his criminal record, told The Irrawaddy on Saturday that his wife had run into problems at their local polling station.
“I have found that some officials at the polling station had no idea about the procedures,” he said. “My name appeared on the voting list. That’s not what is supposed to happen. After my complaints, they fixed it and let my wife cast the vote.”Ms Suu Kyi is the daughter of Myanmar’s iconic General Aung San   was assassinated in 1947.
Suu Kyi wants reforms in Myanmar to continue and constitutional amend to come for her to stand for presidency. Her call for the constitution to be amended to allow her to stand for the presidency was said in her appearance in BBC today.

Suu Kyi was born in Myanmar but lived in the UK after studying at Oxford University where she met her husband Michael Aris. Back to Myanmar in 1988 as the country was experiencing a period of political upheaval. She took part and eventually led the revolt against then-dictator, General Ne Win.
The protests were brutally suppressed by the army who seized power in a coup that year, calling elections in May 1990.But the junta refused to hand over control after the NLD won a majority vote despite the fact that Ms Suu Kyi was under house arrest and disqualified from standing.

A process of reform has been under way in Myanmar since November 2010, when military rule was replaced by a new military-backed civilian government.

Yangon went to the polls today for the first municipal elections in six decades, with voters hoping for change as the city booms, despite knowing little about the candidates or their policies.

The election will be closely watched as a test of the country’s democratic credentials ahead of a landmark nationwide poll slated for November next year.

For many the ballot for the Yangon City Development Committee is the first chance to vote under the country’s quasi-civilian government, which replaced outright military rule in 2011.

It is also a rare opportunity to have a say over the future of Myanmar’s biggest city, where residents grumble about runaway construction and soaring rents, worsening traffic, poor sanitation and weak pollution control.

“It’s very difficult to have big expectations as this is the first YCDC election for 60 years,” Khin Maung Tun, 50, a resident in Thaketa township told AFP. “But we came here to vote and show our spirit.”

Ukraine takes historic step toward NATO

Ukraine takes historic step toward NATO
Ukraine took a historic step toward NATO on Wednesday in a parliamentary vote certain to stoke Russia’s anger ahead of talks on ending the ex-Soviet state’s separatist war.

Lawmakers in the government-controlled chamber overwhelmingly adopted a bill dropping Ukraine’s non-aligned status – a classification given to states such as Switzerland which refuse to join military alliances and thus play no part in wars.

President Petro Poroshenko had vowed to put Ukraine under Western military protection after winning an election called in the wake of the February ouster in Kiev of a Moscow-backed president.

“Ukraine’s fight for its independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty has turned into a decisive factor in our relations with the world,” Poroshenko told foreign embassadors in Kiev last night.

Ukraine assumed neutrality under strong Russian pressure in 2010.

It had sought NATO membership in the early post-Soviet era but – its once-mighty army in ruins and riven by corruption – was never viewed as a serious candidate.

Last winter’s revolution in Kiev upset Russian President Vladimir Putin’s plans to enlist Ukraine in a new, Kremlin-led bloc that could rival both NATO and the European Union.

And Moscow had set Kiev’s exclusion from all military blocs as a condition for any deal on ending the pro-Russian uprising that has killed 4,700 in the eastern Ukrainian rustbelt in the past eight months.

Putin’s view of NATO as modern Russia’s biggest threat has only been reinforced by this year’s dramatic spike in East-West tensions over Ukraine.

“In essence, an application for NATO membership will turn Ukraine into a potential military opponent for Russia,” Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev warned in a Facebook post yesterday.

He said that Ukraine’s rejection of neutrality and a new Russian sanctions law that US President Barack Obama signed on Friday “will both have very negative consequences.”

“And our country will have to respond to them,” Medvedev added.

Perhaps the most immediate threat will be to delicate peace talks this week in the Belarussian capital Minsk that Poroshenko announced yesterday.

The last two rounds of Minsk consultations in September produced a truce and the outlines of a broader peace agreement that gave the two separatist regions partial self-rule for three years within a united Ukraine.

But the deals were followed by more fighting that killed at least 1,300 people.

The insurgents’ decision to stage their own leadership polls in violation of the Minsk rules effectively ended political talks between the two sides.
