Napolitano steps down as Italian president

Italy’s president, Giorgio Napolitano, 89, stepped down Wednesday after almost nine years in office. Napolitano said two weeks ago that his advanced age had made it increasingly difficult for him to perform the duties of his office, Reuters reported. Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has said he wants to quickly reach an agreement with both his own party and political rivals to choose a successor in an office which has wide, but only loosely defined powers.

Shanghai police have arrested 10 Turkish nationals, accusing them of supplying fake passports to ethnic Uighurs from the western region of Xinjiang, described as terror suspects by state media, Reuters said. Another 11 people, including nine Xinjiang “terror suspects,” were also detained in November. They were trying to leave China after paying $9,700 for altered Turkish passports, the Global Times newspaper reported.

Pope Francis canonizes first Sri Lankan saint as model for national unity

Pope Francis on Wednesday canonized Sri Lanka’s first saint as an example to promote national unity in the country, AP reported. The Rev. Joseph Vaz was a 17th century Indian missionary who revived the Catholic faith in Sri Lanka during a time of anti-Catholic persecution by Dutch colonists, who were Protestant Calvinists. The capital’s seafront park was attended by more than 500,000 people. Francis then headed to the northern city of Madhu to pray at the Our Lady of Madhu shrine, a Catholic pilgrimage site that is also a destination for people of other faiths. The visit is the first by a pope to the northern Tamil territory that was devastated by a 25-year civil war, and Francis is expected to call again for reconciliation between Sinhalese and Tamils.

The former mayor of the southwestern city of Iguala has been charged with last year’s kidnapping of 43 students, Reuters quoted a senior Mexican security official as saying. SHANGHAI, January 12, 2015 – The Laureus World Sports Awards, the premier honours event in the international sporting calendar, is to be held at the world-famous Grand Theatre, Shanghai, on the evening of Wednesday, April 15.

Dr Edwin Moses, Chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy, a group of the greatest living legends of sport, said:“Having seen the Grand Theatre I think we can promise that this is going to be a Laureus Awards to remember, one of the finest. This is the first time the Awards has been held in China, an exciting new development for us, so I am delighted that the Awards Ceremony will take place in such a celebrated and iconic venue.”

The globally televised Awards Ceremony, attended by many legends of sport past and present, will celebrate the achievements of the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen of the year. The Laureus World Sports Awards will be supported by Chinese textile and wool company HengYuanXiang Group (HYX), the Host Partner of the 2015 Laureus World Sports Awards, and will receive the strong support of the Shanghai Municipal Government,

Since it opened in August 1998, the Grand Theatre has staged over 6,000 performances of operas, musicals, ballets, symphonies, chamber music concerts and theatrical plays and is the home of the Shanghai Opera House Company. Sited to the north of the People’s Square, it is one of the landmarks of Shanghai. Designed by French architects ARTE Charpentier, when night falls the lights of the glass fronted building create a dazzling vista.

The winners of the Laureus World Sports Awards are selected by the 47 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy.Proceeds from the Laureus World Sports Awards directly benefit and underpin the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which supports more than 150 community sports projects in 34 countries, including China. Since its inception, Laureus has raised over €60 million for projects which have improved the lives of millions of young people through the use of sport.

Edwin Moses said: “My fellow Academy Members and I are delighted that the 2015 Laureus Awards will be held in Shanghai, an exhilarating and vibrant city and I would like to thank the HengYuanXiang Group and the Shanghai Government for their support in making this possible. Laureus is much more than an Awards Ceremony. As our first Patron Nelson Mandela said ‘Sport has the power to change the world’ and it can change people’s lives for the better. We will be using the 2015 Awards to send that message from Shanghai around China and the world to show how sport can make a difference to the lives of every one of us. Laureus has been working in Shanghai for many years and now that we are working together I know this will give us the chance to expand our work here significantly.”

HYX Group General Manager Mr Chen Zhongwei presented his best wishes for the event to be held in the Grand Theatre. He said: “2015 marks the Chinese Year of Sheep. In Chinese culture, the sheep symbolizes good luck, which is the best greeting for the 2015 Laureus World Sports Awards, the first such event in China. The Grand Theatre is a landmark in Shanghai, where all the guests and audience will be impressed by its exquisite beauty. As an international metropolis, Shanghai has been known for its ‘Shanghai Style’ across the world. And this debut of Laureus in China should no doubt take advantage of the geographical strength of Shanghai.

“As the Host Partner of the Laureus World Sports Awards, HYX will show our enthusiasm and experience in successfully sponsoring sports events, so that the co-operation between the two parties will be a valuable combination. This is what is called ‘harmony’ in China. We truly believe that this will be the most representative and unforgettable Laureus World Sports Awards Ceremony in its history, when all the sports stars and those loving sport will shine in the city together.”

Since their inception, three Laureus World Sports Awards have been won by Chinese athletes: Houston Rockets’ basketball legend Yao Ming was named Laureus Newcomer of the Year in 2003; two years later it was the turn of Liu Xiang, the great 110 metres hurdler who won China’s first ever gold medal in track and field, in the Athens Olympics in 2004; and following the highly successful Beijing Olympic Games, the Chinese Olympic Team received the Laureus World Team of the Year Award.

Shanghai, one of China’s most iconic travel destinations and one of the most spectacular cities on Earth, is a perfect location for the 2015 Laureus World Sports Awards. A popular tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks, such as The Bund, City God Temple and Yu Garden, as well as the dramatic Lujiazui skyline, it is a showcase for the booming economy of China. Shanghai mixes old world charm with a modern and vibrant city, perfectly blending the past and present. Shanghai annually hosts some of the biggest sports events in the world, including the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix and the IAAF Shanghai Diamond League meeting.

Enjoying a long-standing reputation in China, HYX is a leading force in the textile and garment industry. In recent years HYX has evolved into a modern enterprise developing its own unique ‘brand and culture’, through brands like ‘HYX’, ‘Fazeya’ and ‘Nanonan’. For many years, HYX has actively focused on sport and been a partner in sports events like football, basketball, gymnastics and marathon. In December 2005, HYX became the first non-sports textile and costume sponsor in the history of the Olympics and three years later became the first partner of the Chinese Olympic Committee, customizing the Olympic kit for Chinese athletes.

The ‘Eternal Love’ programme, co-founded by HYX and the China Children and Teenagers’ Foundation, has won the China Charity Award twice, being honoured as the No.1 activity for caring for orphaned and disabled children in China. Also, the ‘HYX Literature Star High School Students’ Writing Contest’ has become the most influential event of its kind, attracting the largest number of contestants. In 1997 and 2007 HYX supported the ‘10,000 Teenagers’ Recreational and Sports Activities’ event in Tiananmen Square, in Beijing, China, in the hope of promoting the health of teenagers. For a long time, HYX has been an active partner in sports events like football, basketball, gymnastics and marathon.

This will be the 16th Laureus World Sports Awards. Among the sporting greats who have previously been named as winners of Laureus Awards over the last 15 years have been Usain Bolt, Sebastian Coe, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Alex Ferguson, Lewis Hamilton, Kelly Holmes, Yao Ming, Rafael Nadal, Pelé, Steve Redgrave, Ronaldo, Michael Schumacher, Kelly Slater, Shaun White, Serena Williams, Liu Xiang and Zinedine Zidane.

Guests who have attended previous Awards Ceremony in the past have included His Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain, HSH Prince Albert of Monaco, David and Victoria Beckham, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sean Connery, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, Morgan Freeman, Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey.

Members of the Laureus World Sports Academy volunteer their time to act as global ambassadors for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, whose mission is to use sport as the means to combat some of the world’s toughest social challenges facing young people today such as juvenile crime, gangs, HIV/AIDS, discrimination, social exclusion, landmines awareness and health problems such as obesity.

Laureus now features a new-look website, which is the online home of the 2015 Laureus World Sports Awards Shanghai and the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, featuring a new design, fully optimized for mobile and tablet, with a dual language capability that lets you switch between English and Chinese at the click of a button. The website is packed with exclusive content, including all the breaking Laureus news, a look back at 15 years of Awards history, videos and interviews from Laureus Foundation project visits and much more.

UN Secretary-General H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon

Nobel Laureate Mr. Kailash Satyarthi

(Bharat Ratna) Mr. Sachin Tendulkar

Ms. Sharmila Tagore

Ms. Nandita Das

Moderator: Mr. Rajiv Chandran, National Information Officer, UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan

Venue: Diwan-i-Am, Hotel Taj Mahal, 1 Mansingh Road, New Delhi, INDIA

In New Delhi, on Monday, 12 January 2015, at the UN Goodwill Ambassadors Dinner hosted by the United Nations in India, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon met with Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, UNICEF Ambassador and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, UNICEF National Ambassador Sharmila Tagore and, actor-ativist Nandita Das. The evening commenced with the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressing the ambassadors and the distinguished guests that included a delegation from Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) and the Executive Board of the National Progressive Schools’ Conference (NPSC).

The Secretary-General told the audience, which included a number of students, how much he appreciated the efforts of the Goodwill Ambassadors present  in their respective fields. He officially launched the UN@70 campaign to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. He took that opportunity to thank all the UN staff in India for their hard work and dedication. He spoke about the YoUNg@70 initiative that is especially valuable in a country like India, which has more young people than anywhere else in the world. The Secretary-General underscored the strong partnership between India and the United Nations in the fight for equality of all individuals, giving priority to children and women welfare.

The Secretary-General also told the audience that while we may all different from one another, we all have the same human rights.

“I am proud to stand for the equality of all people – including those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender,” Ban said.

Following this Mr. Kailash Satyarthi addressed the gathering and talked about how important it is for children to be free to dream, drawing from his personal fight against child slavery and labour. He said, “Whenever I liberate a child, I liberate myself. Freedom is my strife, my inspiration and my power”. He spoke of the need to end child labour, after having earlier submitted a petition to Ban Ki-moon with over 550,000 signature to include abolishing child labour in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Hygiene and Sanitation, Sachin Tendulkar shared an anecdote about his dream of being a cricketer as a child and having the freedom and support of his family to reach his goal. Having worked with child rights issues, he asserted, “Children are the future of our planet.” On the fight to end exploitation of children, he found that the staggering numbers were not a record to be proud of.

Veteran actor Sharmila Tagore rallied in support of improving maternal health, with a special focus on the non-urban areas. She shared her personal experiences about working with women and her learnings on how easily avoidable maternal deaths are. “We need to value are daughters as much as our sons”, she said. She stressed on the vulnerability of excluded groups that includes persons with HIV and members of the LGBTQ community.

Actor Nandita Das pressed on the idea of how it is as important to understand the need for men to get sensitized as it is for women to practice freedom. She mentioned how she envisions the “same future for every child” as she does for her own, and how we must all understand and implement that idea.

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon spontaneously pinned UN Women’s HEforSHE campaign badges on Kailash Satyarthi and Sachin Tendulkar.

The evening, moderated by UNIC National Information Officer Rajiv Chandran, ended on a note of optimism that we will together be able to create, build and achieve The Future We Want.

Adv. Parikh narrated the history of violations of Narmada Water Dispute Tribunal Award, the state rehabilitation policies as well as the judgments of the apex court of 1992, 2000 and 2005.

The land and livelihood based rehabilitation, he argued, is far from completed and the same is evident from the official documents and reports. Hundreds of cases are pending before each Grievance Redressal Authority, chaired by a former judge and hundreds of orders are not complied with. Land offered and/or allotted to many is un-cultivable and hence against law and judgment.

  1. Patkar was granted permission to plead as party-in-person against the request of the opponents. She on her turn, put forth the situation on the ground as well as the violations. She narrated the story of the big scandal in rehabilitation that has totally derailed the policy and squandered crores of Rupees from rehabilitation funds without completion of rehabilitation.

The fake registries scam, she said, has led to making affected persons landless instead of giving them better standard of living, promised through policies.

The Bench enquired about the present status and functioning of Grievance Redressal Authorities; she got it confirmed before the Bench that hundreds of cases are pending before GRA’s while there is no chairman in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat today. The bench then directed to appoint urgently  5 GRA in Madhya Pradesh and two in Maharashtra and Gujarat each. Further, the  Bench stated that it would like to get pending cases redressed and GRA to give their assessment on the differing data presented by parties.  The Bench also directed the all the three states to consult respective authorities and come back with names of the GRAs. Next hearing to be held on 16th January

AMBASADOR TO BERN (A berni követ)

Feature film, directed by Attila Szász (2014), colour, 75 min A fictional account of the 1958 attack against the Hungarian Embassy in Bern, the film is based on a true story about the aftermath of the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Uprising, a spontaneous nationwide revolt that was eventually crushed by Soviet forces, the political thriller chronicles the events of Aug 16, 1958, when two armed Hungarian defectors break into the Hungarian Embassy in Bern, Switzerland, and take the ambassador hostage. The film shows that the emotional and political fallout from a war often has long-lasting effects.

A tense, twist-filled drama plays out behind the closed doors of the Embassy, and the international relations soon begin to boil: Hungary’s government demands immediate action, Swiss policemen surround the building and Hungarian immigrants demonstrate on the street.

International Artworks Exhibition
at HICCJanuary 27 – February 28

Inauguration on

January 27 Tuesday 5 pm

By MD Deleep from France and Switzerland

By Ilona Lovas, Anna Makovecz and Villő Turcsány from Hungary The artist MD Deleep, a French-Swiss artist will be presenting his show under the aegis of India Art Fair. He has been travelling and living in India for over twenty years. He began his artistic study with painting workshops and has also initiated his own studio-gallery, among others. Influenced by Marcel Duchamp, his artistic work may be identified as sculpture, but, it actually manifests rather through hybridization. It is through the symbolization of simplest forms into his installations and sculptures, that the nuances and underlying concepts seem to resolve in integrated configurations. With this view, he desires to participate in the journey of this power that is ardently obvious in this particular ambiance that permeates through the atmosphere of India. It is his attempt to translate and share emotions and sensations through these intermediaries.

An exhibition – cum – performance, curated by art historian, writer and curator Katalin Keserü, organized by art consultant Anna Bagyó, with the participation of three Hungarian woman artists: Ilona Lovas, Anna Makovecz andVillő Turcsány. The three artists, representing three different generations, coexist well with each other. Their works examine the metamorphosis of matter, body and spirit. These evergreen topics of art are translated into the language of contemporary mediums such as installation, photo and video.

Nexus between BJP and Electricitya Distribution Companies

14 01 2015

Nexus between BJP and Electricitya Distribution Companies

In 2013, the BJP promised a 30% reduction in power tariffs in Delhi.  After winning the Lok Sabha elections in May 2013, instead of reducing power tariffs in Delhi, there have have been two power tariff hikes. Why has this happened?

The Aam Aadmi Party government had ordered a CAG audit of the Discoms in January 2014. During this period – after the formation of a BJP government at the Centre – these power companies have refused to submit their accounts for a CAG audit. The CAG has repeatedly appealed to the central government asking them to pressurise these power companies to submit. However, the BJP government seems to have put the entire CAG audit into cold storage.

Now some documents have come forward which provide answers to these questions. According to these documents, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay owns 6 companies, one of which is NCNL INFOMEDIA PVT. LTD. This company installs and replaces meters for BSES. BJP Vice-president, Ashish Sood, has been a director of this company.

In Delhi there have been repeated complaints about meters running too fast, as well as inflated bills because of the same. It is incredible that these meters have been installed by a company owned by the Delhi BJP President. We are putting up the evidence backing these allegations on our website:

The people of Delhi demands answers to the following questions:

  1. Why have people who’ve been supplying meters to the Discoms been made President and Vice-President of the Delhi BJP. Is this not conflict of interest?
  2. Delhi BJP has made Satish Upadhyay and Ashish Sood the President and Vice-President of the State unit despite knowing of their involvement with power companies. The people of Delhi want to know what is the relationship between Delhi BJP and these power companies?
  3. BJP has made the owner of these power companies, Anil Ambani, an ambassador of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The people of Delhi want to know how deep is the relationship between BJP and Power companies.
  4. How many meters have been supplied so far by the companies owned by Satish Upadhyay and Ashish Sood? From whom did they buy these meters and for what price? For how much did they sell these meters to BSES?
  5. Satish Upadhyay has five more companies, whose names are the following:
Name of the company CIN
NCNL Infomedia Pvt. Ltd. U72900DL2002PTC113891
New Delhi Communication Network Ltd U64201DL1996ELCO77294
NCNL Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. U45400DL2008PTC173397
Fabrilon Twilles (India) Pvt. Ltd. U74899DL1988PTC033192
NCNL Transomedia Pvt. Ltd. Records of this company are untraceable
NCNL Power Pvt. Ltd. Records of this company are untraceable

Do these 5 companies have any relationship with power companies? If yes,  what are they?

  1. After the elections when Satish Upadhyay and Ashish Sood becomes leaders of the opposition, will they support or oppose our government’s actions against these power companies

The following documentary evidence is available on the URL:

  1. Approved contractor list for FY-2013-14 of BSES Delhi, in which NCNLInfomedia Pvt Ltd. is an empaneled contractor
  2. Form 26AS (TRACES –  TDS statement) of  NCNLInfomedia Pvt Ltd. generated from the Income Tax of India website:

  5. For the financial year 2010-11
  6. For the financial year 2011-12
  7. Copy of the webpage of this company listed on
  8. Dealer Credentials as per Depart of Trade and Taxes , the letter of the whistleblower written to the department of DVAT, and another internal letter for acceptance of the complaint

Green or Greedy? Corporations’ Role in Global Sustainable Development

14 01 2015

Green or Greedy?
Corporations’ Role in Global Sustainable Development

Worldwatch Institute’s State of the World 2014 explores the shifting role of corporations in the UN’s global effort for sustainability

Washington, D.C.—     As national governments flounder to resolve pressing global challenges, corporations are positioning themselves within the United Nations framework as efficient players and indispensable partners in international policy debates. But with their immense economic and political sway, can corporations be brought to the development table without the “corporate capture” of governance? In the Worldwatch Institute’s State of the World 2014: Governing for Sustainability, contributing author Lou Pingeot, policy adviser at Global Policy Forum, explains the need for accountability and transparency as corporations join the development discussion (
Already, business groups—   especially large multinational corporations—   have become very active in post-2015 UN initiatives. And, not surprisingly, various business reports now present economic growth and a market-based approach, rather than government regulation, as unambiguous solutions for poverty reduction and economic development.
“Making the business case for sustainable development may be seen as a pragmatic approach,” writes Pingeot. “This begs the question, however, of what to do when necessary efforts for the public good do not constitute a good investment for the private sector.”
Future solutions may depend on moving away from the “business-as-usual” trajectory, in which people are seen as consumers and entrepreneurs, to one that considers them as multifaceted citizens. But with powerful economic actors currently benefiting greatly from the business-as-usual model, they may have a strong interest in resisting far-reaching structural transformation toward sustainability.
The mining industry is particularly over-represented in some UN initiatives. One in five of the 30 corporate representatives in the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network—   which includes representation from BP, Anglo American, and Total, for example—   have ties to the mining industry.
“It could be argued that these companies are precisely the ones that should be involved because of their important impact on development, human rights, and the environment,” says Pingeot. “However, the mining and oil and gas sectors also have the most incentive to delay or limit the transition to sustainable development, so as to protect their profit sources and ultimately their existence.”
There is merit in—   and necessity for—   cooperation in order to make large-scale changes in business practice. Some pioneering industries have already begun to lead the path to sustainable development solutions. But the corporate entry into international development will require important reforms for transparency and accountability. The UN will need to adopt a systemwide conflict-of-interest policy and to report funding sources with full transparency. It must clearly define criteria for business participation, excluding players that have broken UN sanctions, lobbied against international agreements, or otherwise violated environmental, social, and human rights conventions.
Avoiding the undue influence of business actors on the post-2015 agenda, while still encouraging private sector participation, will require a major shift in UN norms and policies toward more stringent transparency and accountability.
Worldwatch’s State of the World 2014 investigates the broad concept of “governance” for sustainability, including action by national governments, international organizations, and local communities. It also highlights the need for economic and political institutions to serve people and to preserve and protect our common resources. 14 01 2015

Novak Djokovic and Jacob’s Creek release ‘Made By’ films series #MADEBY
Novak Djokovic announced as Global Ambassador for Jacobs’ Creek
Novak Djokovic (@djokernole), world number one tennis player and three-time consecutive Australian Open winner, and iconic Australian wine brand, JACOB’S CREEK (@jacob’screek), have released the new ‘Made By’ film series today. Novak Djokovic is the new global ambassador of Jacob’s Creek tennis sponsorship and associated marketing platform.
Jacob’s Creek has a long-standing affiliation with professional tennis and Novak personifies the authentic spirit that Jacob’s Creek celebrates.
Unscripted and raw, the films show a side of Novak the world has perhaps not seen before. We see the real Novak, recounting the never before told life stories from Belgrade, Serbia, celebrating the people, places and passions that have made him the tennis champion he is today.
Titled ‘Made By Determination’, the documentary style film series takes viewers back to the beginning of Novak’s journey, from growing up in war-torn Serbia, to the dedication and commitment of his first coach Jelena Gencic, to his pivotal Grand Slam wins in the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
Commenting on the films at the Global Premiere, held in Melbourne, Australia last night, Djokovic said“Everything I experienced growing up has led me to become the person I am today. Creating the Jacob’s Creek ‘Made By’ film series has allowed me to tell my story, in my own words and share it with the world.
My path to success has by no means been easy, but the people, places and passions that have shaped me are integral to my success. These films have given me the chance to acknowledge what I am made by.”
Derek Oliver, Global Marketing Director of Jacob’s Creek, said:”Novak’s ‘Made By’ story brings to life the authentic spirit that Jacob’s Creek celebrates.
Novak’s ‘Made By’ story is powerful, and the determination, dedication and effort he has put into his career is similar to the craft of our winemakers and the people behind Jacob’s Creek. Our partnership has been truly collaborative, working together to create a film series that celebrates authenticity, and that we are truly proud to take to the world”.
Kartik Mohindra, Business Head – International brands, Pernod Ricard India, says “Jacob’s Creek has a long-standing affiliation with professional tennis and Novak personifies the authentic spirit that Jacob’s Creek celebrates. It is this authentic spirit that reflects the effort and dedication we invest in crafting premium quality wines.”
The ‘Made By’ films series has three chapters, Birthed by Serbia, Shaped by Jelena and Inspired by Dreams.
Birthed by Serbia
Being raised in war-torn Belgrade, Serbia, it was Novak’s family that kept him strong. All of the hardships he faced during these times taught him about strength, resilience and the importance of having a strong support network.
Shaped by Jelena
It was on tennis courts near his parents’ restaurant that Novak first met legendary tennis coach, Jelena Gencic. She saw a 5 year old Novak hanging on the court fence, watching as she trained kids from the Belgrade tennis camp and invited him in to have a hit. From that invitation to come and play, a tennis legend was born, and Jelena’s generosity, dedication and commitment still shapes the way Novak plays tennis.
Inspired by dreams
In the final ‘Made By’ film, we see Novak passionately discuss his pivotal Grand Slam win in Wimbledon, the goal he is been aiming for since he first watched Pete Sampras win the tournament in 1993. It was this challenge that inspired Novak, as an aspiring tennis player, to make a replica Wimbledon trophy which still sits in a prime position alongside his other awards.
The ‘Made By’ film series, which was directed by Keith ‘Keef’ Ehrlich, launched ahead of the Australian Open with a Global Premiere held at The Luminaire in Melbourne, Australia.
The ‘Birthed By Serbia’‘Shaped By Jelena’, ‘Inspired By Dreams’ and ‘Made By Determination’ films plus outtakes and behind the scenes can be viewed online at
The ‘Made By’ films are the next evolution of the extremely successful Jacob’s Creek ‘Open Film Series’ starring tennis legend Andre Agassi.
The partnership with Djokovic is part of Jacob’s Creek’s global tennis sponsorship platform, which includes the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the China Open.
The ‘Made By’ film series forms part of the new Jacob’s Creek ‘Made By’ global campaign which celebrates the people, places and passions that go into crafting every bottle of Jacob’s Creek wine.

BJP Power Companies Nexus‬

14 01 2015

BJP Delhi President Satish Upadhyay and another BJP leader Ashish Sood were exposed by Arvind Kejriwal in today’s Press Conference.
Satish Upadhyay owns 6 companies. All work with power discoms. His companies install and replace electricity meters. The same meters which were under scrutiny for inflated electricity bills.
Mr.Satish Upadhyay and Ashish Sood, must answer the following questions:
1) Is it correct that the companies of Delhi State BJP President and Vice President are involved in supplying meters and other equipment to BSES?
2) Since when have they been supplying, installing and replacing meters and conducting metering work for BSES?
3) From where did they procure the meters, and other equipment that were being supplied to BSES and at what cost? At what cost did they supply these meters to BSES and at what cost did BSES supply these meters to consumers?
4) Were they installing these meters in Delhi households, and also carrying out Meter Reading and maintenance services for these meters?
5) Why is BJP silent on the alleged corruption and fudging of accounts by discoms? Why is BJP silent on the issue of audit of discoms and the privatization scam of DVB?
6) Can Mr.Satish Upadhyay explain the transactions that were undertaken by his two companies- NCNL Transomedia Pvt. Ltd. and NCNL Power Pvt. Ltd. – which have now become untraceable? Is it true that major payments from Reliance group companies and BSES were made to these two companies?
7) NCNL Infomedia Pvt. Ltd. appears to have two TIN numbers and we are hereby attaching the Dealer Credentials as per Depart of Trade and Taxes, NCT ; the letter of the whistleblower written to the department of DVAT; and another internal letter for acceptance of the complaint. What is the reason for having two TIN in the name of the same company at the same place? The whistleblower has alleged that the intention behind this is ‘making dubious bills and receiving payments from dubious bills in undeclared bank accounts’ and ‘sales declared in VAT returns is mismatching with the sales shown as per the Income Tax and ROC returns’.
He should come clean on the conflict of interest.

As per the list, 23 mines that are close to production, have been earmarked for auction, while 17 others including Tara East, Parsa East and Kanta Basan would be allotted directly.

E-auction of 23 coal mines for qualified bidders will be held from the second week of February. Indian economy to inject fund to grow

13 01 2015

Arun Jaitley today said, the divestment programme would be pursued on priority and involve more than one PSU during current fiscal. The comments follow media reports that the government is looking to sell 10 per cent stake in Coal India to raise Rs 24,000 crore.

While terming the reports as speculative, Jaitley told reporters on the sidelines of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit at Gandhinagar that the government will sell part of its stake in more than one public sector company before March-end. He, however, did not name the firms where the government is looking at divesting its stake.
The government has realized Rs 1,715 crore from disinvestment proceeds so far in the current fiscal 2014-15,for which it had set a target of Rs 43,425 crore from sale of its shares in listed companies.

World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said we are the first human generation which can eliminate extreme poverty and India should be the leader in eliminating poverty. Stating that he is looking forward to a Vibrant India along with Vibrant Gujarat, Mr. Kim said India’s economy is expected to grow at 6.4 percent this year. Mr. Kim added that tax and subsidy reforms essential for inclusive growth in India. India has potential to be a leader in solar energy production, and the solar sector could be India’s key contribution towards fighting climate change. The World Bank President said after slowing to sub-five per cent growth in the previous two financial years, the economy has started showing signs of pick-up as it expanded by 5.7 per cent and 5.3 per cent in the second and third quarter of 2015.

The World Bank President said Prime Minister Modi and his government have been quickly putting in place the building blocks for even more rapid growth, streamlining national regulatory structure and promoting social inclusion. Jim said he was very encouraged by the recent proposal of a Constitution amendment bill for Goods and Services Tax. He said the World Bank had a deep interest in promoting policies and supporting projects that maximise sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Overseas investors have pulled out nearly 1,700 crore rupees from the Indian stock markets in January, so far, following a steep fall in crude oil prices amid slowing global growth.

The outflow comes after investments from Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) in the equities hit a 10-month low of 2,100 crore rupees in December. According to the latest data with Central Depository Services Ltd, foreign investors were gross buyers of equities worth around 18,500 crores between January 1st and 9th, while they sold shares amounting to around 20,200 crores — a net outflow of 1,673 crores for the period. However, they took a bullish stance on the Indian debt markets and invested a net of 2,620 crore rupees in the segment during the period.

Brent crude oil price is hovering at around 51 dollars per barrel. On the 7th of this month, it fell below 50 dollars a barrel – first time since May 2009 – mainly due to increased supply of oil and slowing global growth. It had dropped to as low as 49 dollars 66 cents a barrel on that day.

Jan 13,

The US government is seriously looking into the hacking of social media accounts of the military’s Central Command, CENTCOM. Talking to reporters in Washington, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest yesterday said that they are examining and investigating the extent of this incident.

The hackers posted threatening messages on Twitter and YouTube accounts aimed at American troops. Initial US media reports said that the tweets appeared to be from sympathizers of the Islamic State militant group. In a statement, the CENTCOM said its social media account has been compromised and said it is taking appropriate measures to address the matter. The twitter account was disabled later on.
