Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang has won the trust vote in the 60-member Assembly.Fifty nine MLAs, excluding Speaker, cast the vote in Zeliang’s favour. Governor PB Acharya had summoned the Special emergent Session of the Assembly today for the trial of strength of Zeliang and the dissident group.
The crisis began after 22 MLA’s of the ruling Naga People’s Front, NPF, withdrew support to Zeliang-led government on the 5th of last month. Later, they approached the Governor, staking claim to form a new government under their new leader G Kaito Aye.
The Chief Minister had responded to the move by sacking six NPF legislators. This led to 11 dissidents resigning from their respective portfolios. He then urged the Governor to summon the special session of the Assembly for a trial of strength.
